A Bow of Strange Fruit, 2019

The piece is a memorial for Slavery in the US. I, metaphorically, utilize the story of the cursed peaches of Natchez and create a connection between the Natchez event and the song “Strange Fruit”. According to the story, thousands of slaves affiliated with Union forces died, in Natchez contraband camps. The story says that their bodies have fertilized peach trees that were grown in the Devil’s Punch Bowl. By using real peaches, I also want the audience to recognize the importance of the persistent care that this issue requires. Ignoring to replace peaches with fresh ones will result in rot.
